[Blog] A Good Pro is An Honest Pro Written by kerryblue on Monday, 17th May 2010 10:29 Shane Supple has been hailed a hero here in Ireland by the GAA powers that be for his bravery and honesty in turning his back on football with Ipswich having fallen out of love with the game. Shane is now featuring in the Dublin senior [Gaelic] football panel being a sub in their last competitive game in March against Mayo. He is expected to make a big impact when the All-Ireland Championship kicks off this summer. To date Shane has been playing his club football with St Brigids and has obviously won over the number one jersey at club level and turning in some fine displays in the process this form has seen him called into the Dublin squad. There he will have a very interesting battle on his hands with Stephen Cluxton who has been The Dubs' number one for many years and is probably the top keeper in the game at present. Dublin however have been starved of success and nobody will be sacred in the Championship which started this weekend. In one article in a provincial newspaper recently it was quoted that it was a pity his name wasn't Shane O'Supple and he would have been christened the SOS of Gaelic Football for reversing a trend that for years has seen so many fine Irish players abandon the game here to seek their fortunes in The UK playing soccer. I for one, as an avid Dublin supporter, am looking forward to seeing Shane fight his way into the side this summer and hopefully be a part of a winning Dublin side that will bring the Sam Maguire back to where it belongs in September. With the terrible performances that we have seen from so many of the Town players during the past season it looks to me that the problems in soccer and with Town in particular live on in a very big way. Why should we as fans put up with overpaid players happy to live in their comfort zone and not to care whether we win, lose or draw? All reasons Shane stated and continues to state as why he lost his love for the game. Can anyone hand on heart honestly argue that we have at least six players that couldn't care less about the club and its results, a club we all love and have dreamed of playing for? Forget about blaming Roy Keane for one moment and look down the squad, I'm sure you will pick out at least six players if not double that that think they are fooling all of us week in and week out. So I say good luck Shane and I respect you as a man for speaking out and doing what you have done, especially after the shambolic season we as Town fans have just witnessed and wish you the height of success with 'The Dubs' this summer and in the future.
